The Presidential Library cinema club meeting, held within the framework of the Arctic Day, turned out to be full: a demonstration and discussion of the documentary film "The Main Directorate of the Northern Sea Route. Pages of History", video tour "Icebreaker “Krassin”: 100 Years in the History of Russia" and a video conference presentation from the Arkhangelsk book exhibition timed to the 85th anniversary of the establishment of the Northern Sea Route "The Northern Sea Route - the Ice Road to the Future".

The Northern Sea Route is the shortest sea route between the European part of Russia and the Far East; The legislation of the Russian Federation is defined as "the historically established national unified transport communication of Russia in the Arctic".

The film "General Directorate of the Northern Sea Route. Pages of History" reflects how far the North exploration is a complex matter, and it immediately becomes clear why almost all the breakthroughs and achievements on this path begin with the words "first" and “for the first time”. The first Russian hydrographic expedition led by Boris Vilkitsky from east to west on the icebreakers "Taimyr" and "Vaigach" in 1914-1915; the first Committee of the Northern Sea Route, established in April 1919 by a decree of the Council of Ministers of the Provisional Siberian Government Admiral Kolchak, transformed in April 1920 into the Soviet "Komseverput"; expedition led by O. Y. Schmidt, which in 1932 on the icebreaker "Sibiryakov" for the first time passed the Northern Sea Route from Arkhangelsk to the Bering Strait for one navigation.

According to the author of the script for the film about the Main Directorate of the Northern Sea Route, candidate of historical sciences Pavel Filin noted, according to the results of this expedition, the top leadership of the country prepared a report on the possible use of the northern sea route for the development of industry and infrastructure of the north of the USSR. For this purpose, a single organization was created that would regulate the development of the polar transportation system - the Main Directorate of the Northern Sea Route. Of course, it was a state one. "Today, several large operators operate in the Arctic", he added, "and we are talking about some centralization of their actions on a new round of developing Arctic riches and developing the transport component".

The presentation of the book exhibition timed to the 85th anniversary of the establishment of Glavsevmorput, the leading librarian of the Intellectual Center of the E. I. Ovsyankin Scientific Library of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named (video conference) Polina Yankovskaya, revealed the content of the most interesting fundamental works on discussed issue. Such, for example, as the almanac "Transport and Logistics in the Arctic" - the publication discusses the main problems of an integrated approach to the creation of a national multimodal transport corridor, oriented to year-round operation, including the Northern Sea Route and the river, automobile and railway communications, and the airport network.

At the Presidential Library cinema club meeting there was also noted the great role of the administration of Glavsevmorputi during the Great Patriotic War, when the Northern Sea Route was the most important transport route through which warships of the Pacific Fleet were posted to the Barents Sea, and also transportation of hard coal, forests and other national-economic goods.

The final chord of the cinema club was the video tour "Icebreaker “Krasin": 100 years in the history of Russia", filmed by the specialists of the Presidential Library on the materials of the exhibition of the same name. The film tells about the development of the Arctic, the key episodes of the life of the icebreaker - from its creation in 1916 to the present. For a long time, Krasin remained the most powerful Arctic icebreaker in the world. He paved the way for ships through the ice, rescued Arctic expeditions and served science. Today it is a unique museum, a symbol of the history of the development of the Arctic and the marine heritage of Russia. The films feature experts’ opinions, chronicles, unique exhibits and documents from the museum “Icebreaker “Krasin”.
