A new issue of the historical magazine “Rodina” was presented in the Presidential Library

On March 16, 2018, the presentation of the March issue of the popular science and history magazine “Rodina” was held at the Presidential Library. The authors of the publication, representatives of the "Rossiyskaya Gazeta", employees and guests of the libraries of Stavropol, Perm, Ufa, Chelyabinsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Ryazan, as well as the Khabarovsk co-working center "Boiling Point" took part in the videoconference. In addition, for the first time pupils of Lyceum №344 of the Nevsky district of St. Petersburg participated in the presentation.

The third issue this year was presented by Semyon Ekshtut, the leading columnist of the historical journal, Doctor of Philosophy. The main theme of the issue was the 1918 intervention. The materials tell of the incredible cruelty of the invaders and the heroic confrontation of the defenders of the country. A large study is devoted to Czechoslovak legionnaires who found themselves in the Civil War in the very center of Russia, and because of which historians still cannot come to a common opinion. The reader will also be able to look at the events of a hundred years ago with the eyes of the American Eleanor Prey. She has lived in Vladivostok for more than 30 years and described in her letters those years, and "in no other source it is described so simply and so invoice the huge catastrophe that our country experienced at the beginning of the century". The story will be added by unique photos from the collection of the Russian State Archive of Cinema and Photo Documents, also included in the issue.

"Rodina" for the first time publishes a letter sent in the spring of 1953 to the Central Committee of the CPSU (B.), where the incredible project of the leader's return to life is described in detail. In addition, the magazine introduces the reader to the documents of the commission for the organization of the funeral of the Generalissimo.

One of the central materials of this issue is a big interview with Modestas Paulauskas, the prototype of the hero of the film "Move Up". This picture, dedicated to the victory of the USSR national basketball team over the Americans in the final of the Munich Olympics - 1972, became the leader of the Russian film distribution. On the pages of “Rodina”, the reader will also be able to look through the pages of the diary of writer Mikhail Prishvin, which he kept almost 50 years, to learn about the fate of the world's first woman minister Sofya Panina, about how and why the Soviet government moved from Petrograd 100 years ago to Moscow and about many other interesting people, facts, places. The traditional rubric "The Cuisine of Rodina" will tell how culinary masterpieces appeared on the table during the era of the Soviet deficit.

Presentations of the latest issues of the popular science and history magazine “Rodina” in the Presidential Library have become traditional. They have been held monthly since April 2017 as part of a cooperation agreement between the Presidential Library and the Russian newspaper, which was signed at the end of 2016. Organizations regularly hold joint events: in December 2016, the Multimedia Exhibition "The Year of the “Rodina" 2016: Historical Events in People's Stories" was opened in the Presidential Library, in November 2017, a presentation of its updated version was held, in the building on the Senatskaya Square are held video lectures with the authors of the historical magazine “Rodina”. Digitized copies of the popular science publication systematically enrich the Presidential Library electronic collections.
