The lecture "Flotilla of the Arctic Ocean during the Civil War" was held in Murmansk
The Murmansk State Regional Universal Scientific Library continues the cycle of public readings "The Civil War and the North" organized by the regional branch of the Russian Historical Society.
On March 21, at the Murmansk Regional Center of the Presidential Library, another lecture was delivered by D. Zhalnin, Candidate of Historical Sciences, member of the Naval Museum of the Northern Fleet. The theme of the lecture was "Flotilla of the Arctic Ocean during the Civil War".
Soviet literature and cinematography formed in the public consciousness a steady image of the sailors of the Civil War - "the beauty and pride of the revolution". Meanwhile, naval units fought in the white troops. Thus, the Flotilla of the Arctic Ocean throughout the war was part of the armed forces of the "white" Northern region.
The well-known Murmansk historian described the participation of seamen in combat operations on the Northern Front and presented an analysis of the specifics of the formation of naval units.
On the website of the Presidential Library the Murmansk region is represented by the collection "Murmansk region: pages of history". The proposed selection includes studies, statistical materials, archival documents, visual and video materials reflecting the geography, socio-economic and political aspects of the history of the Murmansk region in the second half of the XVIII century and the first third of the XX century, as well as the current Charter of the Murmansk region.
