In 1812, Lieutenant Colonel of the Akhtyrsky Hussar Regiment, commander of the 1st Battalion. He fought under Romanov, Saltanovka and Smolensk, took part in the rearguard battles. On August 21, PI Bagration sent a report with a request to allocate at his disposal a detachment for action in the rear of the enemy. Received the support of M. I. Kutuzov. At the head of the detachment, initially consisting of 50 Akhtyrsk hussars and 80 Cossacks, operated on the communications of the Great Army on the Old Smolensk road. During the retreat of the enemy, he distinguished himself under Lyakhov, Krasny, Kopys and during the occupation of Grodno.
