Mamayev Kurgan is a hill on the right bank of the Volga River in the Central District of the city of Volgograd, where fierce battles took place during the Battle of Stalingrad from September 1942 to January 1943. In memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War, in 1959-1967. under the guidance of the sculptor EV Vuchetich, a memorial ensemble "To the Heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad" was erected on the Mamayev Kurgan with the main monument "Motherland Calling!".
