Monument to Hero of the Soviet Union AM Matrosov is located in a small square at the intersection of Bolshoi Sampsonievsky Avenue and Alexander Matrosov Street. In honor of the Hero of the Soviet Union Alexander Matveyevich Matrosov (1924-1943) in December 1952 in St. Petersburg Batenina street in Vyborgsky district was renamed. In the square on the street. A.Matrosov On May 7, 1968 a monument to the hero was erected. Authors of the project: sculptor LM Toric and architect L. I. Shimakovsky. The monument is made of granite in the form of a soldier in a raincoat and a helmet, with an automatic rifle in his right hand, clenching his left hand and furiously peering towards the possible appearance of enemy troops. On the face of the pylon-base relief image of the Hero of the Soviet Union and the inscription: "Alexander Matrosov." The height of the monument is 3.5 meters. A fighter of the 91st Independent Rifle Siberian Brigade named. Stalin, the 2nd Infantry Separate Battalion, Private Alexander Matrosov, in a battle near the village of Chernushki, the Pskov Region, on February 27, 1943, rushed to the German bunker and covered the machine gun with his body, saving the lives of his comrades. Closing the embrasure, he brought victory to his unit and set an example of self-sacrifice in the name of the Great Victory. Subsequently, his feat was repeated about three hundred times on various fronts of the war. Alexander Matrosov was posthumously awarded the honorary title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
