In 1812, the colonel, the chief of the Navagino infantry regiment and the commander of the 1st brigade of the 14th Infantry Division as part of the 1st separate infantry corps of General P.W. Wittgenstein. He was in the battles near Klyastitsy and Polotsk (5-6 Aug.). For showing courage on October 18, 1812, promoted to the rank of Major-General. During the assault Polotsk was wounded on October 7 with a bullet in the leg (awarded the Order of St. George of the 3rd century). He fought under Chashniki, commanded a separate detachment of troops in the occupation of Vitebsk (awarded the Order of St. Volodymyr 3rd century). Then he commanded one of the avant-garde detachments, successfully operated under Batura, fought near Borisov, where he was wounded again (awarded the Order of St. Anne 1st st.). - The biography of V.I.
