In 1812, Major-General, Adjutant-General, Chief of the Akhtyrsky Hussar Regiment and brigade commander in the 4th Reserve Cavalry Corps, distinguished himself in affairs under Romanov, Saltanovka and in the Battle of Smolensk. In the Battle of Borodino commanded the 12th Infantry Division in the 7th Infantry Corps, was wounded and on October 31 for distinction made to lieutenant-general.
