In 1812, the colonel, the chief of the Tobolsk Infantry Regiment, as part of the 1st Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division of the 2nd Infantry Corps of the 1st Western Army, distinguished himself in the defense of Smolensk (on October 31, 1812, promoted to Major-General) and under Valutina Gore .
