Yakov Chernikhov is a representative of the Russian avant-garde in architecture. He graduated from the Odessa Art College (1914), then - the architecture department of the Leningrad Higher Artistic and Technical Institute (1925). In 1927 he organized in Leningrad "Scientific Research Experimental Laboratory of Architectural Forms and Methods of Graphing." In the 1930s. publishes books: "Fundamentals of Modern Architecture" (1930), "Constructions of Architectural and Machine Forms" (1931), "Architectural Fantasies. 101 Composition" (1933). The works of Y. Chernikhov were presented at the exhibition "2222 architectural fantasies" (Leningrad, 1933) .
