The legendary name of the area is associated with the legend of the murder in this place in 882 of the Kiev princes Askold and Dera Novgorod Prince Oleg. The stone church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker on Askold's grave was built in 1809-1810. on the project of architect A. Melensky on the site of a wooden church. Since the end of the XVIII century. on a significant territory adjacent to the church, was one of the most famous aristocratic necropolises in Kiev. Today, after reconstruction, the church again acquired a form close to the original. The current arrival of the Greek Catholic Church.
