Khreshchatyk from the late XIX - early XX century. - the main street of Kiev with large profitable houses, banks, hotels. In the 70-80-ies. ХІХ century. here are mainly built three-story buildings, on the first floors of which there were numerous shops, offices, restaurants, coffee shops, etc. In 1876, the City Duma building was built on this section of the street (it did not survive). In 1890 the first route of the horse (horse-drawn tram) was laid. Later it was replaced by an electric tram, the movement of which - for the first time in the Russian Empire - began in Kiev in 1892. At the beginning of the 20th century, Khreshchatyk is a significant shopping center of the city. Some buildings of this time in this part of the street are preserved. Khreshchatyk itself was reconstructed. |
