The photograph depicts a monument on the mass grave of the crew members of the submarine Shch-402, who died on August 16, 1942 located on the territory of the military section of the city cemetery in Polyarny. The monument is made in the form of a fragment of a rock, in the center of which is affixed a tablet of black marble with the names of 19 sailors who died on the submarine "Shch-402". Established in August 1943. The Red Banner submarine "Shch-402" in August 1942 entered the 10th combat campaign. On the night of 13 to 14 August, a submarine battery exploded on the submarine. The boat was seriously damaged, 19 people were killed, including the crew commander, Captain 3rd Rank N. G. Stolbov. The submarine "Shch-402" was towed to Polyarny where the bodies of the dead submariners were taken out and buried in the mass grave with honors. After the repair, the submarine continued its combat path under the command of Captain 3rd Rank AM Kautsky, on July 25, 1943, she was awarded the title of "Guards"
