Russian language and society: The project “City of educated people” to be implemented in Vologda

The project "City of educated people" will be implemented in Vologda. It is developed by specialized departments of the Vologda State University (VSU) in conjunction with the city authorities.

The main objective of the new project is the creation of cultural literate environments, including city streets. Representatives of the city administration, professors and schoolteachers of the VSU discussed the problems of preserving the Russian language and literacy of Vologda citizens.

At the meeting was decided to hold in Vologda of a large-scale recitation competition, to connect it to not only pupils and students, but also representatives of various professions - from teachers to the workers. It is also planned to announce an essay contest among teachers in the city, which would tell young people why it is important to know and to speak their native language.

In addition, as part of the project "Vologda – the city of educated people" it is planned a scientific conference "The Word and the text in the cultural consciousness of the era", student festival, dedicated to the mother tongue. Students will make a research, which reveal how educate the authors of outdoor advertising are.

"Our common goal is to motivate Vologda citizens on the study of the Russian language, to make everyone aware of the importance of literate speech and the ability to express their thoughts. The younger generation should go through the school of rhetoric and speech culture to maximize its ability in the modern world", - said the mayor of the city Eugene Shulepov.
