Gogolevsky and Tverskoy boulevards as well as the Ekaterininsky park of the capital host the "Military Affair!" exhibitions dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the battle for Moscow. They are available until December 20. The expositions feature photographs showing how, in incredibly difficult conditions, the townspeople were able to learn a new business, defend the city and drive enemies away from the capital.

"The stronger gender is not men, but women," Dmitry Tarasevich wrote in his memoirs, published in the book The Siege of Memory Pages. According to him, this realization came during the hardest time of the siege - in the winter of 1941-42. The Presidential Library has been receiving materials as part of a large-scale campaign launched last November in an effort to collect first-hand accounts of the siege. This time we got a letter from Kasym Maulenov, son of the prominent Kazakh poet Syrbai Maulenov, who defended Leningrad on the Volkhov Front, was seriously wounded and kept the memories of that time alive through his whole life.

On November 22, 1941, automobile traffic was launched along Military Highway № 101, which connected besieged Leningrad with the eastern shore - the “Big Land” - along the ice of Lake Ladoga. On December 5, 1941, after intense defensive battles that lasted more than two months, the Soviet Red Army launched a counterattack along the entire frontline near Moscow. This offensive, which ended in April 1942, resulted in the defeat of Army Group Centre's shock troops, marking the first major setback for the Wehrmacht since 1 September 1939 and changing the course of World War II.
