Virtual tours of the Presidential Library's exhibitions

A virtual tour of the exhibition "Book Monuments of the Presidential Library: Russia through the Eyes of Travelers" (December 24, 2024 – May 7, 2025) presents publications of the XVI–XX centuries from the collections of the Presidential Library. Many of them are book monuments of national importance, and some are book monuments of world importance. They tell about various kinds of travels in Russia: diplomatic visits, scientific expeditions, visits to various cities and regions. The first exhibition hall presents the memoirs of foreigners – members of diplomatic missions and travelers of the XVI–XIX centuries. Russian editions of the XVIII–XIX centuries, the works of famous Russian researchers and travelers are shown in the second one: expedition materials, travel notes, maps and guidebooks.

The virtual tour of the centuries-old Yugra exhibition, which will be open from September 16 to December 12, 2024, is dedicated to the history and culture of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug - Yugra. The exposition is based on the results of scientific research published in the eight-volume publication "Academic History of Yugra".

Yugra is one of the leading regions in oil and gas production, an energy hub and at the same time, a region successfully developing in education, science, culture, tourism, and sports. It has a high standard of living. The exhibition provides evidence of the dynamic development of this northern territory, including the emergence and settlement of people, progressive integration into the Russian state, economic growth, military glory, labor valor, discovery of oil and gas fields, and historical and modern achievements in science, sports, and culture.

A virtual tour of the exhibition "Memory of Generations: The 80th Anniversary of the Relief of the Nazi Siege of Leningrad" (May 25 - August 17, 2024) organized by the Russian Military Historical Society and the Presidential Library of the Administrative Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi Siege. It was a decisive event in the longest battle of the Great Patriotic War - the Battle of Leningrad (July 10, 1941 - August 9, 1944). The main goal of the exhibition is to showcase, based on reliable historical materials, how people immediately after the relief of the siege perpetuated the memory of Leningrad's heroic defenders, and how contemporaries of these events saw the events surrounding the liberation of the besieged city.

A virtual tour of the exhibition "Artists – graduates of the University", held at the Presidential Library from April 5 to May 14, 2024. The exposition was timed to coincide with the 300th anniversary of the founding of the oldest university in Russia. The exhibition showcased the student years and works of famous artists who were once students at the university, including Antioch Kantemir, Ivan Turgenev, Nikolai Chernyshevsky, Alexander Block, Olga Bergoglio, Vasily Polenov, Alexander Bennett, Nikolai Rerich, Sergei Diagilev, and Igor Stravinsky, among others. Their achievements have forever left a mark on the world of literature, art, theater, and music, making St. Petersburg University an important part of world culture.The exhibition was based on archival documents, letters, books published in the 18th and 20th centuries, and illustrations and photographs from the collections of the Gorky Scientific Library at St. Petersburg University and the Presidential Library.

Virtual tour of the exhibition "Vice Admiral Stepan Osipovich Makarov (1848–1904)  - outstanding sailor and scientist. Marking the 175th anniversary of his birth" was held in the Presidential Library from January 22 to March 20, 2024. The exhibition was dedicated to the outstanding Russian sailor, scientist, shipbuilder, hero of the Russo-Turkish and Russian-Japanese wars, Vice Admiral Stepan Osipovich Makarov. The exhibition spotlighted his life path from his youth until his tragic death on March 31 (April 13), 1904, on board the battleship Petropavlovsk, which was blown up by a Japanese mine during the defence of Port Arthur. Such milestones in the life of S. O. Makarov as study and service in the Pacific Ocean and the Baltic Sea, participation in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878 and the Akhal-Teke expedition of 1880–1881, scientific activities, participation in the exploration of the Arctic and the defence of Port Arthur were also presented.

Virtual tour of the exhibition "Russian State Archive of the Navy. 300 years of history" was held at the Presidential Library from January 22 to March 20, 2024. The exhibition was timed to coincide with the 300th anniversary of the formation of the Russian State Archive of the Navy - the largest institution preserving the most important documents on the history of the Russian fleet from its creation at the end of the 17th century until the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. The archive has come a long way from a small repository at the Admiralty College, which collected documents from the central authorities of the fleet, to the general archive of the department, and then, in accordance with the decree “On the reorganization and centralization of archival affairs” of June 1, 1918, it became a state archive. The archive collections contain more than 1 million 250 thousand documents, 26 of which are included in the State Register of Unique Documents of the Russian Federation.

Virtual tour of the exhibition “Culture under the auspices of the state: from the Ministry of the Imperial Court to the Administrative Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation” held in the Presidential Library from November 21 to December 29, 2023. The exposition was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the formation of the Administrative Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation. The exhibition is based on archival documents, drawings, plans, rare book editions of the 19th–21st centuries, photographs, newsreels and other materials from the Presidential Library’s collections provided by partners. Thanks to these exhibits, the history of the department is revealed to visitors, from the creation of the Ministry of the Imperial Household in 1826 to the present day. The Presidential Library presents a virtual tour of the exhibition285 years of Russian ballet”, marking the anniversary of the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet. Marking the Year of Teachers and Mentors, the oldest ballet school in Russia, the first in our country and one of the best professional schools in the world, celebrates 285 years since its foundation. The exhibition was opened from May 24 to September 30, 2023. The exhibition includes ballet shoes and theatrical costumes, book rarities, original posters and photographs, works of painting and sculpture, as well as personal belongings of famous Academy graduates. Virtual tour of the exhibition “Great Peter introduced science to us…”, held at the Presidential Library from May 13 to August 14, 2022. The exposition spotlights the emperor’s contribution to the establishment of Russian science and scientific education. Rare book editions tell about the foundation of the first Russian printing house in Amsterdam and the development of domestic book printing, about Peter's acquaintance with European scientists Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz and Christian Wolf, anatomist and collector Frederick Ruysch, about the activities of the first academicians, the purchase of scientific instruments, the acquisition of collections, the formation of the library fund. Virtual tour of the exhibition "Keepers of the Law: Marking the 300th anniversary of the establishment of the Russian Prosecutor's Office" (Presidential Library, February 7 – April 22, 2022) celebrates the 300th anniversary of the Russian Prosecution Service. The exposition highlights the history of the Prosecutor’s Office of Imperial Russia: from the moment of its establishment in 1722 to the foundation of the Office of Public Procurator of the USSR. Its exhibits spotlight milestones in the development of the Prosecutor’s Office as the state power institution (administrative and judicial reforms of the XVIII–XIX centuries). Besides, they tell about outstanding lawyers, Prosecutor Generals, Ministers of Justice (A. Koni, A. Vyazemsky, G. Virtual tour of the exhibition "The Northern Route: The Arctic in Russian Literature and Art" was held at the Presidential Library from July 1 to September 30, 2021. The exposition tells how Russian writers, followed by artists and filmmakers of the XX century, showed in their works traditions and the specific way of life of the ingenious peoples of the North, the exotic beauty and resources of the Arctic. Shostakovich St. Petersburg Academic Philharmonia” is available at the Presidential Library from March 24 to June 24, 2021. Exhibition visitor through the prism of the collection of the Musical Library, which features rare and noteworthy materials, will see two centuries of Russian music - from the emergence of the first musical societies in Russia and the opening of the hall of the Noble Assembly to the present day.

Virtual tour of the exhibition "Cimmeria by Maximilian Voloshin. 1920", which was held at the Presidential Library from December 23, 2020, to March 10, 2021. The exposition presented original items from the collections of the Voloshin House-Museum (House of the Poet) in Koktebel and the digital collection of the Presidential Library. The exhibition marked the centenary of the end of the Civil War in Crimea and the exodus of the Russian Army and Black Sea Fleet from Crimea. Its central theme is the influence of the 1917 Revolution and the Civil War on the life and oeuvre of Maximilian Voloshin, a prominent representative of the Silver Age, poet, translator and artist.

The exhibited archival documents, newsreels and photographs illustrate the events that led to a large-scale world conflict. Virtual tour  of the exhibition "Expanding the Framework of the World within the Globe": marking the 200th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica by the expedition of F. Bellingshausen and M. Lazarev", which was held from January 28 to April 19, 2020, at the Presidential Library. The exhibition is marking the anniversary of one of the most significant geographical discoveries in the world. On January 16 (28), 1820, the Russian sloops "Vostok" and "Mirny" reached Antarctica.
