Russia – Thailand: the History of Relations

The collection reflects the significant moments of political and cultural exchange between Russia and Thailand since the 19th century until the present day. It includes both historical research, geographical and ethnographic accounts of Thailand, as well as archival records, diplomatic letters, notes, and visual materials that tell the story of friendly relations between the two countries.
Russia and Thailand have a long history of diplomatic ties that began at the end of the 19th century. The collection features thematic sections such as "Russian Presence in Bangkok" and "Visits of Siam's Leaders to Russia," which focus on this period. Along with a vast array of archival materials, the collection also includes rare photographs from the late 19th century depicting the Siamese Prince Chakrabongse during his time at the Imperial Page Corps in St. Petersburg, as well as Nicholas II's visit to Siam in 1891.
The collection is based on a variety of archival materials from different sources. These include the Russian State Historical Archive, the Archive of Foreign Policy of the Russian Federation, the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, the Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Geographical Society, the Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Military Historical Library, as well as the websites of the Institute of History, Archeology, and Ethnography of the Peoples of the Far East at the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Yeltsin Ural Federal University.
