Nikolay Pirogov (1810–1881)

The collection is dedicated to privy councilor Nikolay Pirogov (1810 – 1881), a Russian surgeon, teacher, and corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences.
The collection is divided into four thematic sections. The Biographical Materials section contains sources that provide details about the life of a great Russian surgeon. Of particular interest to readers is the cycle of unpublished letters by N. I. Pirogov, published in the journal Russkaya Starina by the writer and literary critic S. Ya. Streich.
The Pedagogical and Administrative Activities section includes archival files related to Pirogov's teaching experience and administrative work, such as the case of the transformation of the Richelieu Lyceum into the Novorossiysk University and Pirogov's role in this process.
Pirogov's versatility and genius are demonstrated in the collection of his literary articles in the "Essays" section, which highlight his contributions to various fields.
In the Memory section, a significant place is occupied by a collection of articles dedicated to Nikolay Ivanovich Pirogov (1810-1910) and a photograph of his monument in Moscow, a renowned Russian surgeon.
The collection was created using materials from various sources, including the State Archive of the Russian Federation, the Russian State Historical Archive, the Russian State Library, the Moscow Regional State Scientific Library, the Sverdlovsk Regional Library for Children and Youth, Ural Federal University, Penza State Museum of Local Lore, and the Military Medical Museum of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. Additionally, materials from the City Medical Prevention Center were also used.
