Society and Reading: A conference and a workshop on the practices of reading and promoting literature for children and youth held in Tomsk and Irkutsk

On October 14-15, the II All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference “Children’s and Teen Literature: approaches to the analysis, practice of reading, regional context of studying” and the III Scientific and Methodological Workshop “Prospects of cooperation between libraries, NPO, higher education institutions and schools in studying and promoting literature for children and teens” are held in Tomsk and Irkutsk. The events have been organized by the Siberian Scientific and Educational Centre for the Study of Children’s and Youth Literature and the Development of Reading Culture, Tomsk State Pedagogical University and the Mark Sergeev Irkutsk Regional Children’s Library.

The events are planned to be held in both online and offline formats.

The following topics will be discussed at the Conference:

  • problems and poetics of literature for children and teens;
  • regional text in children’s literature;
  • forms of reading activity in the modern socio-cultural environment;
  • practices of family reading;
  • development of reading and authoring competencies in children and teens;
  • children’s and teens’ practices of reading works in the native (not Russian), in Russian as a foreign language, practices of reading authentic texts;
  • issues of reading and studying modern children’s and youth literature in secondary and higher education;
  • special books for special children, and the methods of introducing reading in correctional pedagogy;
  • psychology, pedagogy and sociology of reading.

The following topics will be discussed at the Workshop:

  • children’s and teen literature in the collections of libraries of various levels;
  • training of specialists and improving the competencies of library specialists / teachers in the field of children’s literature: issues and prospects;
  • library projects, the implementation of which is based on the introduction of books and reading to children. Socio-cultural projects featuring children’s literature texts;
  • methods and possibilities of the visual and playful interpretation of children’s literature texts in the work of librarian / teachers in the social and educational projection;
  • experience and prospects of collaboration between libraries, higher education institutions, schools and nonprofit organization in the development of reading culture of children’s and teen literature.
