‘The Song of Igor’s Campaign’ – new view

21 August 2009

A new version of ‘Song of Igor’s Campaign’ translated by Victor Tinaev is presented at the exhibition of Moscow Modern Art museum. The edition is made in accordance with French classical tradition of the beginning of XX century. It is a so-called ‘book of artist’ that is an independent piece of art. A special paper and a special print are chosen for the book. The painter Victor Goppe has made twelve linocuts for this edition. One of the participants of the project was a famous animator Yuri Norshtein who knows Victor Tinaev and who wrote a preface for ‘Song of Igor’s Campaign’. This laborious task took the painter four years.

The spectators have a possibility to choose what interpretation of the Old Russian epos they prefer for reading. The exhibition presents a wide retrospective of rarity editions.
