Libraries and education: V All Russian Forum of School Librarians “Mikhailovskoye 2011” opened

The Russian School Library Association under the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation holds the V All Russian Forum of School Librarians “Mikhailovskoye 2011” 24 to 29 October 2011 in the premises of the State Culture Preserve “Mikhailovskoye” (Pushkin Gory, Pskov region).

The V All Russian Forum of School Librarians “Mikhailovskoye 2011” is the major event of the Russian School Libraries Month “New knowledge and 21st century technology for a school teacher-librarian” which is held as a part of the International Month of School Libraries 2011 launched by the International Association of School Libraries (IASL).

The objective of the forum is to unite spiritual and intellectual resources of Russia for the development of national school libraries as catalysts of upbringing, education and life quality of children and youth.

The forum is meant to join the efforts of federal and regional authorities, libraries, pedagogues and parents, business community in order to improve the development of school libraries and support their work as basic structures of development of innovative Russia.

At the Forum, jointly with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, heads of department of education, educational institutions, professionals of the educational system, leading scientists in the field of library and children's reading will work out a mechanism for introducing a post of "teacher-librarian" in Russian schools and launch new areas of work, including the presentation of Innovative School of Russian librarians.

Within the Forum there will be workshops, round tables, innovative and controversial platforms, exhibitions of books and media products for school libraries, master classes, training sessions, business games, etc.

As part of the professional program of the Jubilee Forum will be held a round table "Development of personal information culture in the school library as an integral part of professional work of a teacher-librarian: from the promotion and spontaneity to systematic and purposeful training." This round table will be one of the key events of the Forum in the context of the introduction of the new position of "teacher-librarian" in Russian schools.

School librarians, methodologists on educational foundations, educational administrators, and representatives of school administration, the media, publishers, representatives of public organizations are invited to attend the Forum.
