History of Russia: Exhibition of unique editions “The Patriotic War of 1812 in editions of the XIX-XX centuries” in Novgorod

An exhibition “The Patriotic War of 1812 in editions of the XIX – XX centuries” opened at the reading room of the scientific library of the museum in the Novgorod Kremlin. It features rare and unique editions of the book collection of the Novgorod Museum Reserve:

- Pre-revolutionary editions, among which is one of the first descriptions of the Patriotic War, created by witnesses of the events - "History of the invasion of the Emperor Napoleon in Russia in 1812. In official documents and other reliable papers of Russian and French General Staff, composed by His Majesty adjutant, Colonel D. Buturlin";

Commemorative edition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the War of 1812.

Of particular interest there are:

The book "For Faith, Tsar and Fatherland. The Patriotic War of 1812 in Pictures" published in Paris in 1912, with the commemorative inscription: "His Imperial Highness Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich the devoted offering from the publisher I. Lapin. Artist. Paris. 1912", consists of a collection of paintings and portraits of famous artists, the text with maps and illustrations;

- One of the most famous and influential "anniversary" publications - multivolume Partnership I. D. Sytina 'The Patriotic War and Russian society";

- Encyclopedia "The Patriotic War of 1812";

- Art books that reflect the events of the war in the paintings by V. Vereshchagin, Peter Hess, Yuri Ivanov and others from the State Hermitage Museum, private domestic and foreign collections;

- Memoirs.
