History and culture: The exhibition “Two Worlds of Russian icon-painting” in Moscow

The exhibition "Two Worlds Russian icon-painting. Monuments of the XVII century from the collection of the Museum of Russian Icons" was opened on December 20, 2015 at the Museum-Estate "Arkhangelskoye" (Moscow).

The exhibited artworks from the Museum of Russian Icons belong to the XVII century - one of the most complex and controversial periods in Russian culture, not by chance got the name of "the era of change". Iconography of the time completes the centuries-old history of the development of ancient art and stands on the threshold of realistic painting of modern times.

A variety of Russian paintings of this time can be seen in a wide range of monuments belonging to the Museum of Russian Icons. Creativity of metropolitan painters demonstrates a number of works executed at the beginning of the reign of the Romanov dynasty, and combining traditional techniques and created a completely new spirit of the Armory in the second half - the end of the XVII century. A significant number of the monuments of the museum refer to the art of leading iconic centers of the Volga region. Particularly noteworthy are the work of Yaroslavl masters evolved exquisite ornaments, sophisticated graphics and decorative writing. Different artistic trends cover a wide range of icons associated with the art of Tver, Rostov, Pskov, Ryazan, in the XVII century, legislators have not lost value iconographic and stylistic innovations. Of great interest are works written in various iconic centers of the vast lands of the Russian North: Vologda, Arkhangelsk, Kargopol, Povazhya. They are differed not only with naive and unpretentious language, folk art, clearly closer to the folk art culture; Among them are found examples of rare iconographic harass and the saints.
