Regular meeting of the National Libraries Cooperation Council took place in Moscow

December 9 in the building of the Russian State Library, Moscow, took place the 14th meeting of the Russian Federation National Libraries Cooperation Council: the National Library of Russia, the Russian State Library and the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library.

The National Libraries Cooperation Council was established in May of 1996 in accordance with the Accord on partnership and cooperation between the National Library of Russia and the Russian State Library.

The Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library signed the Memorandum on cooperation with the National Library of Russia and the Russian State Library on September 1, 2009.

At the regular meeting of the Cooperation Council of December 9, 2010 was presented a summary report about the work done during the year. Besides the National libraries representatives, the Council meeting was assisted by Director Deputy of the Department for cultural heritage and visual arts, Head of the Libraries and Archives Department of the Russian Ministry of Culture Tatyana Manilova and Director General of the National Information and Library Center “LibNet” Boris Loginov. The most urgent problems of collaboration between national libraries were discussed in five subject working groups of the Cooperation Council:

- Normative-legal support of the libraries’ activity. Methodological activities. Cooperation in the field of international activity;

- Collaboration in the field of cataloging and creation of bibliographic resources;

- Development and exchange of bibliographic resources;

- National libraries holdings development.

Annual meetings conclude with the signing of the Cooperation Council report which will be elaborated on the basis of the results of the working groups meetings. The report will be available on the three national libraries websites.

Under a federal law “On librarianship” the activities of the Russian Federation National Libraries is based on coordination and cooperation.

The next meeting is scheduled for December 2011 to be held in the Presidential Library, St. Petersburg.

During the first half of 2011 the Council members shall come to agreement on the particular suggestions regarding the ways of realization of the results obtained at the last meeting.
