Presidential Library: The Second meeting of “Joint Working Group on Elaboration of Principles and Approaches to Unification of Presentation and Access to Library, Archival, Museum Resources in Accordance with Modern International Standards”
March 30, 2011 the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library held the second meeting of “Joint Working Group on Elaboration of Principles and Approaches to Unification of Presentation and Access to Library, Archival, Museum Resources in Accordance with Modern International Standards”.
Among members of the group are leading specialists of the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library, the Federal Archival Agency (Rosarkhiv), the Russian State Historical Archive, the State Archive of the Russian Federation, the National Library of Russia, the Russian State Library, the National Information and Library Center “LIBNET”, the Joint Stock Company “Alt-Soft” and “AS” company.
During the meeting was presented a report on the work done in 2010, which outlined the scope of work done by the Working group members in the following areas:
- Study of the national and foreign experience of archival description development,
- Study of international standards and formats of presentation of archival description;
- Development of RUSMARC format for description of archival (manuscript) materials.
The meeting attendees were presented the translated edition of ISAD(G) standard – General International Standard Archival Description.
The members of the Working group elaborated the major areas of efforts for 2012:
- Translation into Russian of EAD format with its official publication in future;
- Preparation of official changes and additions to include to RUSMARC format for description of archival materials, preparation of examples of archival descriptions;
- Completion of convertor MARC 21 - RUSMARC – MARC 21 for archival documents;
- Development of methodical instructions on cataloging of archival documents in automated library systems
- Development of models of type interfaces on cataloging, search and display presentation of archival documents in the national automated systems.
