Part 8: Descent into Hell. The first half of the XIV century. The eighth part of the album includes: a cover-saver, 5 photos of the icon "Descent into Hell". The photographs show a general view and fragments of the icon. The icon "Descent into Hell" illustrates the event that occurred after the Crucifixion before the Resurrection and the Ascension of Christ. Under the feet of Jesus are depicted the broken castles and gates of the gates of hell. He brings Adam, Eve and the righteous out of hell. Christ is represented as the winner - the cross in his hand is the symbol of the victory of life over death. Christ, who received death on the cross, redeemed with his blood the original sin of Adam and saves people from hell. - Materials of the film "The Russian icon in the collection of the Novgorod Museum-Reserve" (director Dyakonova TI, Presidential Library named after Boris N. Yeltsin, 2012)
