The Presidential Library will award the best disclosing of the ecology theme on the “World of knowledge” film festival

The Presidential Library will take part in the “World of Knowledge” XII International Film Festival of Popular Science and Educational Movies, which will be held in St. Petersburg from on October 18—22, 2017. The theme of this year festival is ecology, and the slogan — “The Green Planet,” but the organizing committee also accepted the entries from the filmmakers on related subjects. There are about 25 works in short-list, among which are at least 40-50% of domestic popular science movies.

Half a century ago on July 22, 1972 a lander of the Soviet space probe Venera 8, built at the Lavochkin Research and Production Association (a part of the State Space Corporation Roscosmos) landed on Venus and transmitted data about the planet’s atmosphere, light level on its surface and the nature of Venus’ resources to scientists.

On the occasion of the New Year holidays, the Moscow Planetarium has prepared an exhibition of rare Christmas tree ornaments and space-themed vintage cards. The display features 45 ornaments and 45 cards, gift boxes and other Christmas exhibits of the 1950s and 1960s, the period when the USSR and the whole world were actively exploring space. The Museum of Cosmonautics is launching a new educational program about the planet Earth – The Time of the First. Russian Geographical Society has taken part in its creation. The museum will host meetings with outstanding scientists in the field of geophysics and geography, with travelers and documentary filmmakers. The series of free lectures will run until the end of the year. A total of 12 meetings are planned. They will be held on Thursdays in the third week of the month.

Libraries of the capital's Department of Culture launched a summer reading program on International Children's Day, June 1. According to Natalia Sergunina, Deputy Moscow Mayor, it will be held in an online format. The theme for 2020 is "Favorite Writers of the Planet". Young participants will read several books by famous Russian and foreign authors during the summer. Then they shall write an essay in a creative diary describing each book.

On April 7, 2021, the State Museum of Oriental Art (Moscow) will launch athe "Walking to the Stars" exhibition by the cosmic artist Boris Smirnov-Rusetsky. It marks a significant date - the 60th anniversary of the first manned space-flight in history. On April 12, 1961, the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first man who made the flight around the planet Earth.
