Education and Society: Museum of Cosmonautics launches a new educational program about the Arctic and Antarctic

The Museum of Cosmonautics is launching a new educational program about the planet Earth – The Time of the First. Russian Geographical Society has taken part in its creation. The museum will host meetings with outstanding scientists in the field of geophysics and geography, with travelers and documentary filmmakers. The series of free lectures will run until the end of the year. A total of 12 meetings are planned. They will be held on Thursdays in the third week of the month.

Society and Reading: Summer reading program launched online

Libraries of the capital's Department of Culture launched a summer reading program on International Children's Day, June 1. According to Natalia Sergunina, Deputy Moscow Mayor, it will be held in an online format. The theme for 2020 is "Favorite Writers of the Planet". Young participants will read several books by famous Russian and foreign authors during the summer. Then they shall write an essay in a creative diary describing each book.

On April 7, 2021, the State Museum of Oriental Art (Moscow) will launch athe "Walking to the Stars" exhibition by the cosmic artist Boris Smirnov-Rusetsky. It marks a significant date - the 60th anniversary of the first manned space-flight in history. On April 12, 1961, the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first man who made the flight around the planet Earth.

On the occasion of the New Year holidays, the Moscow Planetarium has prepared an exhibition of rare Christmas tree ornaments and space-themed vintage cards. The display features 45 ornaments and 45 cards, gift boxes and other Christmas exhibits of the 1950s and 1960s, the period when the USSR and the whole world were actively exploring space. Glass figures of cosmonauts were the most popular Christmas tree decorations of those years. This is when Christmas cards started to feature spaceships,...
