Music and the sea became his passion since childhood. Nikolai Andreevich Rimsky-Korsakov was born on March 18, 1844 in Tikhvin, into a noble family for whom maritime service was a tradition - the great-great-grandfather of the boy was rear admiral under Empress Elizaveta Petrovna, his uncle was rear admiral as well as his older brother later. Little Nick, who sought to imitate him, at the age of 12 entered the Naval Cadet Corps in St. Petersburg.

On February 2, 1943, the Soviet Army defeated the German fascist troops in the Battle of Stalingrad. The Presidential Library portal features the collection "Memory of the Great Victory", where a large number of electronic materials dedicated to this battle was collected: video chronicles, memoirs of participants of events, issues of the "Stalingradskaya Pravda" for 1942-1943; here are also presented rare books, wartime posters, photos of the memorial on the Malakhov kurgan and much more.

Reminiscences about a defender of Leningrad to enter the Presidential Library’s collections

The Presidential Library has been receiving materials as part of a large-scale campaign launched last November in an effort to collect first-hand accounts of the siege. This time we got a letter from Kasym Maulenov, son of the prominent Kazakh poet Syrbai Maulenov, who defended Leningrad on the Volkhov Front, was seriously wounded and kept the memories of that time alive through his whole life.
