The Presidential Library provides a web conference dedicated to Siberia

On March 1, 2024 at 12:00 (Moscow time) a web conference “Development of North-Western Siberia” will be held at the Presidential Library. The event was organized as part of the festival program “Dialogues about Russian history. Development of North-Western Siberia", which is dedicated to the 430th anniversary of the city of Surgut.

The conference is educational in nature and is dedicated to understanding the cultural and historical heritage of Northwestern Siberia.

The event is free. The meeting will be broadcast on the Presidential Library's portal in the Live Broadcasts section and on the institution’s Rutube-channel.

Reputable historians will speak at the conference.

Thus, Andrei Zuev, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Russian History at the Humanitarian Institute of Novosibirsk State University, will talk about the inclusion of Siberia to Russia at the end of the 16th – beginning of the 18th centuries.

Vladimir Puzanov, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department of History and Law at Shadrinsk State Pedagogical University, will devote his speech to the income of the Russian state from Siberian furs in the 17th century.

“Cultural layer of the city of Surgut. Preservation and prospects of archaeological research" is the topic of the report by Georgiy Vizgalov, candidate of historical sciences, leading researcher at the Ugra Laboratory of Archeology and Ethnography of Surgut State University, and Ivan Frolov, an archaeological specialist at NPO Northern Archeology-1 LLC.

Candidate of Historical Sciences, leading researcher in the sector of ethnology and social anthropology of the Institute for the Development of the North of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexey Konev will touch upon the main issues of studying the history of North-Western Siberia. 

“The image of the North of Western Siberia in the socio-economic space of the USSR: from the space of nature to the territory of the environment” - this topic will be presented by Evgeniy Gololobov, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Education, Head of the Laboratory of Historical Research at Surgut State Pedagogical University, full member of the Russian Geographical society. 

Candidate of Historical Sciences, chief researcher at the Museum of Nature and Man, (Khanty-Mansiysk) Yuri Kvashnin will tell conference participants about merchants and fish merchants in Tazovskaya Bay (Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area) in the 19th – early 20th centuries.

The Presidential Library’s portal features major electronic collection Territory of Russia, which includes scientific, popular science and educational publications, archival documents, maps, photographs and newsreels spotlighting the Russian territory in various aspects and in different historical periods. Section of the collection “Formation of the territory of Russia. Land Development" contains materials devoted, among other things, to the conquest of Siberia.
