Yuri Gagarin's personal record exhibited at the Presidential Library

7 March – 20 April 2024

From March 7 to April 20, 2024 the Presidential Library provides the electronic exhibition “The Road to Space. Marking the 90th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's birth". The holiday is celebrated on March 9.

At the exhibition, guests of the Presidential Library will learn how outer space was explored, see rare archival documents, little-known photographs, publications about the first manned flight into space and other interesting materials.

The highlight of the exhibition is the personal record of Yuri Gagarin. It was transferred for digitization to the Presidential Library by the Roscosmos State Corporation as part of a cooperation agreement signed in March 2023.

Yuri Gagarin’s personal record includes a questionnaire, a detailed table containing information about his military service in the Soviet army, a list of positions in the cosmonaut corps, from trainee to pilot-engineer-cosmonaut, information about marital status, reference from the place of study and other documents.

Many facts of Gagarin’s biography are widely known, but his personal record contains some interesting details. For example, that he had the second sports category and the first referee category in basketball. No less interesting is the autobiography written by Gagarin himself.

The exhibition materials also show literary legacy the first cosmonaut left and how Yuri Gagarin’s flight was reflected in art.

The exhibition is based on materials from the Outer Space collection of the Presidential Library, presented on the institution’s portal. It includes fragments of newsreels, periodicals, books, postcards, commemorative medals and badges that spotlight various milestones in the development of astronautics.

To visit the exhibition “Road to Space. Marking the 90th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's birth" one must pre-register by phone (812) 334-25-14 or email at excursion@prlib.ru.
