The Presidential Library will broadly celebrate the Day of Knowledge

On September 1, 2016, the Day of Knowledge, the Presidential Library will conduct a series of events dedicated to the Year of Cinema in Russia: the scientific and outreach conference focused on news photography and newsreel in Russia, workshops with experts in the field of cinema and television, and the “What is Contemporary Art?” video lecture. The live broadcast of event begins at 11 am MSK.

The students of humanitarian faculties of St. Petersburg’s universities will attend the scientific and outreach conference “News photography and newsreels in Russia: document, art, history.” Speakers will tell about the photo chronicle of events of Russian history, the domestic newsreels of the first quarter of the XX century and Russian chronicles in the mirror of newsreel. Documentary chronicle of the Leningrad Documentary Film Studio will be screened as well. In addition, participants of the conference will join a presentation of the book by Yuri Svetov entitled “The First Russian Photo Reporter Karl Bulla.”

The participants of the Day of Knowledge will get a chance to visit the workshops on film directing, animation and an exciting process of restoration of photographic and film documents, where acclaimed experts in the field of cinema and television will share their experiences.

The program of the Knowledge Day at the Presidential Library will be accomplished with the “Knowing Russia” video lecture. Doctor of Philosophy, Professor, Head of the Department of Arts of St. Petersburg State University of Film and Television, a member of the Russian Union of Cinematographers Alexander Kazin will express his opinion about the problems of development of contemporary culture.

The representatives of higher educational institutions of culture and art from around the country plan to join to the activities in a videoconference mode.

All the events of the Knowledge Day will be held within the framework of the Forum of Knowledge, which will last from the 1st to the 6th of September 2016 in the Presidential Library. The agenda of the Forum of Knowledge:

September 2 - the traditional for the beginning of new academic year Day of Naval Knowledge;

September 5 - start of the “State Symbols of Russia” multimedia lesson and the “Popular Science Movies in Modern Russia” Cinema Club;

September 6 - the “Experience and Prospects for the Use of Electronic Information Resources of the Presidential Library in the School” methodical conference.

2 pm - 3 pm. Master-classes of specialists in the field of cinema and television, video lecture with the participation of Alexander Kazin.
