Public video lectures, dedicated to the 275th anniversary of the enthronement of Elizabeth Petrovna, will take place in the Presidential Library

Public video lectures focused on “The Empress Elizabeth: to the 275th anniversary of the beginning of the reign” from the “Knowledge of Russia” series will take place at the Presidential Library (3 Senate Square, St. Petersburg, RF 190000) on December 6, 2016, at 10 am. The event will be aired online on the Presidential Library website at Live broadcast section.

Lecture of Irina V. Tunkina, PhD in Historical Sciences, Director of the St. Petersburg Branch of the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences, entitled “Coronation of the Empress Elizabeth Petrovna on the documents of Academic Archives in St. Petersburg” will be dedicated to the monument of Russian history - belonged to the Empress in person handwritten Coronation Album. Owing to this richly illustrated manuscript, a crowning ceremonial of the Russian monarchs could be observed in detail.

Maxim Y. Anisimov, PhD in historical sciences, senior research associate at the Institute of Russian History, will make participants of the event familiar with “The foreign policy of Elizabeth” during his the presentation in video conferencing mode. In it, in particular, a confrontation between Russia and Prussia, the logical conclusion of which became our country's participation in the Seven Years' War of 1756-1763, will be reviewed.

Mikhail M. Safonov, PhD in historical sciences, senior research associate at the St. Petersburg Institute of History of Sciences, will read a lecture on “The Empress Elizabeth Petrovna in the eyes of Catherine the Great,” reviewing two versions of Catherine's “Memoirs”: of the beginning of 1770 and of mid-1790s. These two editions shows fundamentally opposite images of the Empress, but owing to this comparison, altered with evidences gleaned from other sources, Elizabeth’s personality can be properly understood.

Among the listeners of these lectures will be the students of the Polytechnic College of Municipal Economy and St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technology and Design, in video conferencing mode - staff employees and the guests of the Kirov Regional Universal Scientific Library named after Herzen.
