Council Code of 1649 (Sobornoye Ulozheniye)

When the Time of Troubles was over,  the Romanov dynasty began to rule the country taking active steps in lawmaking. In the mid-17th century there was a need to systematize orders and legislate on new socio-political system. On January 29 (February 8), 1649 the Zemsky Sobor adopted a new code of laws of the Russian state — the Council Code of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich (Sobornoye Ulozheniye).

The collection includes 17th-20th-century editions of the code, regional excerpts from the document, and the researches into history and law dating from the 17th  century.

The collection is based on materials provided by the Library of the Presidential Executive Office of the Russian Federation, the Russian State Historical Archive, the State Archive of Tyumen Region, the St. Petersburg State University, the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia, the Russian State Library, the State Public Historical Library, the Don State Public Library, the Tula Regional Universal Research Library, the Tyumen Regional Research Library, the Center for Information Technology and Systems of Executive Authorities.
