Anniversary of the first issue of the Tyumen Region oldest paper “Izvestia”

May 1, 1918 the newspaper "Izvestia", renamed in 1944 to the "Tyumenskaya Pravda," was established.

Initially, the paper was published by the organ of Tyumen provincial and county executive committees of the Soviets of Workers', Peasants' and Soldiers' Deputies. In 1921, the "Izvestia" were renamed to "Trudovoi Nabat," and after that was issued daily.

In 1926, "Trudovoi Nabat " and "Derevenskaya Gazeta" merged into one that was intended for both urban and rural readers. The edition was given a new name of the "Krasnoye Znamya". As the official organ of the party, it published various resolutions of the all-union and regional authorities, speeches of leaders and other official information. In the focus of the paper was also the peasant life, and the everyday life and problems of Tyumen workers.

During the Great Patriotic War, the paper created new headings, its circulation increased. Newspaper informed the readers about the progress of military operations, covered the work of industrial enterprises of the city, actively encouraging workers to increase performance. Often, the newspaper published the letters of Tyumen front-line soldiers who told of the fighting, of life on the front.

In the summer of 1944, "Krasnoye Znamya" published the Decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR "On the establishment of the Tyumen region." The newspaper became the regional one and changed the name to "Tyumenskaya Pravda." The first issue of "Tyumenskaya Pravda" was released October 1, 1944 at 4 type rages with a circulation of 50, 000 copies. It contained the following headings: "In our region", "Press Review", "Hall of Fame", "On the Topics of the City," "From the Soviet Information Bureau", "International Review," "In the Soviet country," and others. The first editor of "Tyumenskaya Pravda" was Alexei Nezhdanov (Vasiliev), who was evacuated to Tyumen from the besieged Leningrad.

The years of 1950-s for "Tyumenskaya Pravda" was a period of recovery. In 1953, the newspaper's circulation reached 55, 000 copies. In the focus of the paper was cultural life of the city, there were many critical articles on the theater, works by local authors were published. In addition, the paper published large articles timed to anniversaries of politicians, historical figures, on the occasion of the memorable events in the USSR and abroad. The edition covered the plough of virgin soil, the first current, the heat from the Tyumen CHP, the first Berezov gas blowout, the first meters of fabric produced by the worsted mill, collaboration of the engine plant and Borovskaya battery farm, and more.

In the spring of 1965, in the "Tyumen truth" appeared removable pages-posters, dedicated to the achievements of science, work experience in various industries (oil, gas, timber, fish, etc.), construction and agriculture. Every year, on the Day of the city, came out a special issue, telling the readers the history of Tyumen. The newspaper covered in detail the creation and development of the West Siberian oil and gas complex. Readers were informed promptly and in detail on the life of geologists, oil and gas industry workers in the young cities of the Tyumen region. In 1968, the paper was awarded the Order of Red Banner of Labor.

To date, "Tyumenskaya Pravda" has the status of a serious, high-quality socio-political issue. Geographic coverage of the newspaper is the south of the Tyumen region, the Khanty-Mansi and Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Districts. In the center of its focus is the life of the entire region, from the Arctic Ocean to the steppes of Kazakhstan.
