Presidential Library: Memorandum of cooperation between Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library and the Library of Congress signed

In the framework of the Second session of the russian-american Working group on library cooperation Memorandum on cooperation between the Boris Yeltsin Presidential library and the Library of Congress was signed.

Memorandum which will become the basis for the further cooperation in the area of information, scientific and technological exchange was signed by the Director-General of the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library professor A. P. Vershinin and the Librarian of the Library of Congress Dr. James H. Billington. The participants of the Russian-American workgroup, invited experts and the Mass Media representatives attended the solemn signing of Memorandum.

The head of the Russian President’s Affairs Department V. I. Kozhin presented the Commendation Letter of the President of the Russian Federation to the Librarian of the Library of Congress Dr. James H. Billington and expressed hope for the further development of library science cooperation.  

On October 16 the experts from the Library of Congress and the Russian experts discussed the directions of the future cooperation and the possibilities of the digital content exchange. During the workshops there were presented the positions of the two parties in regards of the subject area of the content, compatibility of data exchange and the agreement on technical aspects of cooperation. The Russian party has expressed its interest in the obtaining electronic copies of the documents on the history of Russian statehood, law history and the Russian language, that cannot be found in Russian libraries and archives.
