The fountain was built in 1828 with funds collected by the Crimean-Tatar community. According to the stories of local residents, the emperor who visited Bakhchisarai in 1818 and 1824 left a good memory for the local population: when meeting with the people, he generously distributed money and gifts. It was one of the first monuments in honor of Alexander I, who died in 1825. Presumably, the author of the project was the architect Elson, who at that time was engaged in the restoration of the Khan Palace .
