S.-Petersburg, June 25, 1912 Censor of dramatic performances ... [signature illegibly]. The play begins on the eve of the Patriotic War, in the estate of the landowner Malinova. She wants to give her stepdaughter Elena to marry an elderly neighbor, she is in love with the teacher of the French Gaston. The young landowner Vladimir Beznosov comes to the estate and makes Elena a proposal. Gaston, in love with Elena, calls Beznosov to a duel. From St. Petersburg comes the news of the beginning of the war, about the gatherings of the militia. Patriotically minded Vladimir goes to the front, Gaston - to the French army. IV-th and V-th action of the play continues also in the estate, already after the victory of the Russian troops - Vladimir and Elena are preparing for the wedding. Feeling sorry for the defeated Frenchmen, showing mercy to former enemies, the protagonists of the play help the dying Gaston. - Author's note: three male roles can be played by one actor. .
