On the postcard picture of the fragment of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Assumption Monastery, carved in the rock, an Orthodox monastery in the Crimea. It is located in the tract Mariam-Dere (Gorge of Mary) near Bakhchisaray. The monastery was founded by Byzantine monks, icon-worshipers no later than the 8th century. The first monks who settled here, hollowed out a temple and cave-cells in the wall, which explains its other name - the Assumption Cave Monastery. In the XIII-XIV centuries for a while ceased its activities, then in the XIV century revived. In addition to the monastery complex, on the adjacent territory there is a cemetery of soldiers who fell during the Crimean War of 1853-1856 .
