On the postcard picture of the road leading to the Holy Assumption Monastery - the Orthodox monastery in Crimea. It is located in the tract Mariam-Dere (Gorge of Mary) near Bakhchisaray. The monastery was founded by Byzantine monks, icon-worshipers no later than the 8th century. The first monks who settled here, hollowed out a temple and cave-cells in the wall, which explains its other name - the Assumption Cave Monastery. In the XIII-XIV centuries for a while ceased its activities, then in the XIV century revived. In addition to the monastery complex, on the adjacent territory there is a cemetery of soldiers who fell during the Crimean War of 1853-1856 .
