The ceremonial funeral of the victims of the revolution

The Funeral Commission at the Petrograd Soviet of Workers’ and Soldiers’ Deputies was established in March. Among the objectives of this commission was taking an account of individuals who were wounded or killed in the days of the February Revolution of 1917, providing a financial aid to the families of the deceased, and the organization of the funeral of the victims of the revolution. The Commission operated until September 1917. The largest work of the commission was the organization of a ritual of funeral of the victims of the revolution on March 23 (April 5) on the Field of Mars (Marsovo Pole) in St. Petersburg.

Archival materials of the Funeral Commission are included, as well as the postcards and the fragments of newsreels capturing ceremonial funeral on the Field of Mars.

Correspondence with the local councils of workers' deputies and individual institutions about the funeral of the victims of the revolution on the Champ de Mars, rendering assistance to the wounded and establishing a monument on mass graves, copies of certificates issued to commission officers and persons seconded to attend funerals
