During the construction works of the bridge across the Kerch Strait, an archaeological survey of the bottom was carried out, which resulted in the discovery of four aircraft -turmovik Il-2, crashed and crashed in 1943 during the Kerch-Eltigen landing operation of the Red Army. The expedition was attended by: a multifunctional salvage rescue ship "Rescuer Demidov", marine engineers and diving specialists from St. Petersburg, military historians, searchers and journalists. The mission of the expedition included the survey and safe recovery of the detected aircraft, the establishment of the names of their crews and the possible reburial of the found remains of the dead pilots. The expedition was conducted in several stages.
