Marking the anniversary of the famous Russian writer, actor and film director Vasily Makarovich Shukshin, which will be celebrated on July 25, 2019, the Kemerovo Regional Center of the Presidential Library has arranged a virtual exhibition “Having my Motherland in my Heart ...” dedicated to the life and work of a talented countryman. The video lecture “The Literary Debut of Fyodor Dostoevsky and His Novel “Poor Folk” within “Knowledge of Russia” series was held in the Presidential Library today, on February 19, 2019. The event opened the series of lectures "The Life and Work of Fyodor Dostoevsky", prepared by Professor Konstantin A. Barsht, Grand Ph.D. in Philological Sciences, leading researcher at the Institute of Russian Literature (The Pushkin House) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The Presidential Library has been receiving materials as part of a large-scale campaign launched last November in an effort to collect first-hand accounts of the siege. This time we got a letter from Kasym Maulenov, son of the prominent Kazakh poet Syrbai Maulenov, who defended Leningrad on the Volkhov Front, was seriously wounded and kept the memories of that time alive through his whole life.

February 10, 2021 the Kurgan Regional Center of the Presidential Library based on the Yugov Regional Universal Scientific Library hosted a presentation of a mobile exhibition dedicated to the first post-war elections to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. These elections took place exactly 75 years ago - on February 10, 1946 - and became a milestone in the development of a peaceful life, the beginning of a whole stage of a new life in the country.

Maria Vladimirovna Melentyeva was born on January 24, 1924 in the village of Pryazha of the Autonomous Karelian Socialist Soviet Republic into the Karelian peasant family of Vladimir Averyanovich and Evdokia Andreevna Melentyev. She studied at Pryazhinsky secondary and Svyatozersky junior high schools. She studied well, was fond of sports, and took an active part in public life. After graduating from school in 1941, she worked as a postal operator.

February 2, 2024 marks the 120th birthday anniversary of the Soviet test pilot, Hero of the Soviet Union Valery Pavlovich Chkalov. The Presidential Library's collections feature Nikolai Bobrov’s book Chkalov (1940). The preface to the publication, published two years after the tragic death of the pilot, was written by his widow Olga Erasmovna Chkalova.

200 years ago, on November 19 (November 7 according to the old style), 1824, the biggest flood in the history of St. Petersburg occurred. That day, the water level in the Neva River rose to 421 centimeters above normal. The disaster took the lives of thousands of citizens and caused massive damage to the city. This event is described in Alexander Pushkin's poem The Bronze Horseman.
