  • Maps, plans, drafts and drawings from the “Collection of Peter I” (Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences)

The accumulation of cartographic materials of the Collection of Peter I has started and continued in St. Petersburg. The creation of every new Russian map and every new plan, whether handwritten, engraved or printed, every draft, drawing and engraving has depended on Peter I. The Summer Palace has served as the first storage location for cartographic materials of the Collection of Peter I as well as his books. The process of building up the materials of the vast and valuable Collection at the Academy of Sciences has been mostly finished by 1729. A special museum “Cabinet of Peter the Great” based on some materials has been formed at Kunstkamera. (for details: M. N. Murzanova, V. F. Pokrovskaya, E. I. Bobrova.
