Unique discovery in Great Novgorod

In Great Novgorod was found birchbark picture which age is more thousand years. Archeologists found out two fragments of one picture which edges were ideally compatible and therefore they at once were joined with a special gluing solution. On small birchbark sheet there were some symbols like anchors. According scientists version, on a piece birchbark the ancient painter perfected skills. The discovery proves that citizen of Novgorod used birchbark firstly for drawings, and only then for the letter, rather the reverse, as was considered earlier. For the last years in Great Novgorod have been found more than 400 medieval letters. The most ancient monument of Old Russian writing «Novgorod Psalter», dated 988 – 1036 hold a specific place among discoveries.
