Memorable dates of Russia: The exhibition “Ivan Aivazovsky. To the 200th birth anniversary” in Moscow

The State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow) from 29 July to 20 November 2016 is hosting an exhibition of one of the most popular and loved by the Russian viewer authors - Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky (1817-1900).

In his art themes were laid that troubled by many generations of artists: an interest in the image of the infinite, limitless space, the desire to capture the ever-changing state of nature at a time.

From the large number of works created by him (in the words of Ivan Aivazovsky, about 6000), the exhibition presents some 100 paintings and 50 graphic works. Curator's selection will allow viewers to see the best examples of creativity of Aivazovsky as marine painter, battle scenes painter, the graphics painter. The exhibition shows together four of the most significant paintings of the artist: "Rainbow" (1873), "Black Sea" (1881, both - the State Tretyakov Gallery), "The Ninth Wave" (1850), "The Wave" (1889, both - the State Russian Museum). For the first time viewers will see never before exhibited large-scale painting "Along the shores of the Caucasus" (1885, the Tretyakov Gallery).

The documentary section will introduce Aivazovsky-patron, the first honorary citizen of Feodosia. The exposition also includes models of ships, compasses, globes, telescopes.
