Society and Culture: Rare archival documents are presented in Astrakhan at the exhibition dedicated to the 160th anniversary of the birth of the poet's father Velimir Khlebnikov, a local ethnographer

Since July 26, 2017 in the Velimir Khlebnikov House-Museum (Astrakhan) starts running the exhibition "The Guardian of Swans", timed to the 160th anniversary of the birth of the father of the world-renowned poet.

Vladimir Alekseevich Khlebnikov (1857-1934) - natural scientist, ornithologist, forest expert - made a significant contribution to the conservation of the flora and fauna of the Astrakhan region. On his initiative and with his active participation, the first Soviet reserve in the Volga Delta was created, the first director of which he was. 

The unique "Khlebnikov collection", which forms the basis of the exposition of the Khlebnikov House-Museum, includes the main printed works of V. A. Khlebnikov, his documents, his personal belongings, his family library. Thirty-four items from the archive are presented at the exhibition: his letters, books, photographs, posters, maps, a notebook of a scientist, etc. The key place is given to the basic scientific works of the scientist. Also exhibits of the exhibition will tell that V. A. Khlebnikov stood at the sources of the Astrakhan museum of local lore, whose first exposition was prepared according to his materials.  

In addition, for the first time at the exhibition the artworks from the funds of the Astrakhan Picture Gallery on the theme "V. A. Khlebnikov in family iconography": photographs and portraits of V. A. Khlebnikov, made by Vera Khlebnikova, Pavel Zakharov, Peter Miturich and May Miturich, are presented.

The anniversary of this outstanding scientist is significant in the cultural and educational activities of the Astrakhan region and is timed to the 300th anniversary of the Astrakhan province.
