Nikolai Fyodorov (Second Lieutenant of Artillery) and Gasper Yates (English citizen) opened the Voznesensky Mechanical Brick Plant (near the village of Voznesenskoye) in 1850. Alexander Porokhovshchikov (1833-1918), a nobleman, industrialist, builder, publicist, public figure, creator and owner of the restaurant Slavyansky Bazar and Warm Shopping Rows, architect and philanthropist, writer, publisher and editor of the newspaper Russkaya Zhizn'(Russian Life). He graduated from the Oryol Bakhtin Cadet Corps and served in the Semyonovsky Regiment until 1859. He is best known for the grand project of fire-resistant construction in Russia in the late XIX century. He developed a model village of fire-resistant houses, opened a school of the fire-resistant country and urban construction art, wrote a Firefighter Primer.
