The CD with recollections of writers who participated in the Great Patriotic War, has come out in Altai krai. It contains records, which have survived in the holdings of the State Museum of History of Altai Literature, Art, and Culture and the State Television and the Radio Broadcasting Company “Altai”.

Reminiscences about a defender of Leningrad to enter the Presidential Library’s collections

The Presidential Library has been receiving materials as part of a large-scale campaign launched last November in an effort to collect first-hand accounts of the siege. This time we got a letter from Kasym Maulenov, son of the prominent Kazakh poet Syrbai Maulenov, who defended Leningrad on the Volkhov Front, was seriously wounded and kept the memories of that time alive through his whole life.

Information Technologies and Libraries: Manuscript of John Donne's poems digitized by the British Library

The British Library digitized a rare manuscript of John Donne's poems known as the "Melford Hall Manuscript". It was discovered only in 2018. Now it is available online. Specialists will have an opportunity to explore it in the library's reading room from the summer of 2021.

Presidential Library presents childhood memories of the siege

Lyudmila Zemskova, the resident of St. Petersburg, was among hundreds of people, who responded to the call of the Presidential Library to share documents about the siege. Her grandmother's sister, Valentina Lyubova, who was a head teacher at school No. 105 in Leningrad all through the war, wrote a memoir of heroism of teachers and kept safe the essays that schoolchildren wrote in the besieged city.

The option to hold this holiday was adopted in 1910 in Copenhagen at the suggestion of a German politician, an active fighter for the rights of women, Clara Zetkin. However, the date March 8 was accepted by women of the world only four years later. Russia has joined this agreement.
