Daniil Granin: “The pain of truth is more important than the dubious bliss of ignorance”

January 1, 2020 marks the 101st anniversary of the birth of the classic of modern Russian literature, the thinker, siege survivor and front-line soldier Daniil Granin. The outgoing 2019 was declared the Year of Granin; On the eve of the centenary of the writer, President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed a decree On perpetuating the memory of Daniil Granin and celebrating the centenary anniversary of his birth. The Presidential Library’s portal features an electronic version of this document.

Multimedia lessons in the Altai Territory

The Regional Center of the Presidential Library, operating on the basis of the V. Y. Shishkov Altai Regional Universal Scientific Library, from April 23 to May 10, hosts a series of multimedia lessons for pupils of the Altai Territory, timed to the Victory Day. The lesson was organized to preserve historical memory of the events of the Great Patriotic War and is dedicated to major military battles and combat operations of the war.

July 28, 2020 marks the 1032th anniversary of Christianization of Rus’ and the 1005th anniversary of the repose of the Equal to the Apostles Grand Duke Vladimir, whose memory is sacredly honored by the Russian Orthodox Church. A large number of materials dedicated to this important event are presented on the portal and in the collections of the Presidential Library. Among them are electronic versions of publications from different years, scientific works, video lectures and radio broadcasts.

Borodino battle or the battle on Moscow river as the French call it took place near Borodino village on August 26 (September 7), 1812. The commander of Russian army was M. I. Kutuzov and of the French one – Napoleon Bonaparte. Kutuzov had at his disposal 120 thousand men and about 640 units of gun. Napoleon disposed of 135 thousand men and 587 guns. On November 18 (30) 1853 as part of the Eastern (Crimean) War (1853-1856) the Black Sea squadron under the command of Pavel Stepanovich Nakhivov during the sea battle of Sinop inflicted a crushing defeat on the Turkish squadron of Osman Pasha. This battle became the last major naval battle during the Age of Sail.

Day of the Unknown Soldier
3 December 1966
On December 3, 1966, on the 25th anniversary of Nazi arms defeat near Moscow, the remains of one of the unknown defenders of the capital who was killed during the battles in 1941 were buried near the Kremlin wall in Alexandrovsky garden. The Federal Law of March 13, 1995 (amended on June 13, 2023), "On Days of Military Glory and Memorable Dates in Russia", has declared December 3 as the Day of the Unknown Soldier.

A new virtual tour of the exhibition Memory of Generations: the 80th Anniversary of the Relief of the Nazi Siege of Leningrad has been published on the portal of the Presidential Library. The exhibition was opened in the building of the library on May 27th, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the full liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi siege, the Day of the Foundation of St. Petersburg, All-Russian Library Day, and the 15th anniversary of the Presidential Library.

The Presidential Library has posted on its portal a digitized copy of a unique document - a manuscript score of the Seventh (“Leningrad”) Symphony by Dmitry Shostakovich, the original of which is stored in the music library of the Radio House. The project became possible thanks to the interaction of the National Media Group and the Presidential Library in the field of preserving the historical memory, inextricably linked to the annals of the Leningrad Radio.

Celebrating these memorable dates, the Far Eastern Art Museum (Khabarovsk) opens an exhibition of Western European graphic art of the XV-XVII centuries "Dedication to Dürer". The ceremony will be held on April 9, 2021. The exposition will spotlight the flowering of European graphic art and its various techniques (woodcut printing, calligraphic etching, etc.).
