Alupka

The city is located on the southern coast of the Crimea. The first mention of Alupka refers to 960. In the XIV — the XV centuries a stronghold of Genoese called Lupika was in Alupka. In 1475—1774 years belongs to Ottoman sultans as their Crown property. In 1783, the city came into possession of G. A. Potemkin. In 1823 — came into possession of M. S. Vorontsov.

Alupka Palace and Park Museum-Reserve

Vorontsov Palace, designed by the English architect E. Blore in the 1830s and 40s, is made in English and neo-Moorish styles. There is a park attached to the palace, a monument of landscape art created by the German horticulturist K.A. Kebach. Before the revolution, the palace belonged to the Vorontsov family. It was opened as a museum in 1921. In February 1945, during the Yalta Conference, the palace became the residence of the British delegation led by Winston Churchill. Since 1956, the museum has been revived.
